A time to talk at work: why unlimited access to a listening service matters

Key takeaways

  • Everyone brings something to work with them, and over time it shows up in our focus, our energy and how we treat each other.
  • A listening service gives people a confidential space to talk things through with someone outside their team, their family and their worries.
  • When people feel supported, it shows in the whole workplace.
  • We offer confidential listening sessions for your staff and a regular, supportive presence for your teams.

Everyone brings something to work with them

Most of us arrive at work carrying more than a bag and a laptop. A parent who isn't well. A child who's finding school hard. A decision that keeps us up at night. A quiet sense that we're running on empty.

We rarely say it out loud. We get on with the day. But it doesn't stay at the door. Over time it shows up in our focus, our energy and how we treat each other.

That's why we believe every workplace deserves a time to talk. Not another programme or policy. A real person, who will simply listen.

What a listening service is, and what it isn't

A listening service gives people a confidential space to talk things through with someone outside their team, their family and their worries. There are no forms to fill in and no script to follow. We don't offer advice or opinions unless you ask for them.

At Time to Talk Hub, every conversation is completely confidential. It stays between the two of you. That's what lets people speak openly, sometimes for the first time.

We want to be clear about what we are. Time to Talk Hub is a listening and supportive-conversation service. We are not therapy, counselling, clinical treatment or a crisis line. We sit alongside the wellbeing support you already offer: a warm, human complement, not a replacement.

"I would highly recommend to anyone who feels the weight of the world on their shoulders ... to get in touch with Sarah-Jayne....She is friendly, approachable and greets you with a smile that puts you at ease straight away."

What it gives your people

For employees, it's simple: somewhere to set things down.

  • Being properly heard.

Unhurried time with someone who listens without judgement or interruption.

  • Someone outside work.

No worrying about how it might land with a manager or a colleague.

  • No thought too small.

Quiet burnout, loneliness, a big decision, a heavy day, hard news, or the mental load of running a family and home. Nobody needs a reason to call.

  • A lighter step out.

People leave with a clearer perspective and, often, a clear next step.

  • Support that fits around life.

By phone from anywhere in the UK, or in person in Barnstaple.

What it gives your organisation

When people feel supported, it shows in the whole workplace.

  • Small things stay small.

A worry talked through early is far less likely to build into something bigger.

  • People feel valued.

Offering a time to talk says "we care how you are", and means it.

  • Managers aren't expected to be everything.

Line managers can't be the listening ear for every personal matter. Now they have somewhere kind to point people.

  • Trust stays intact.

What's said stays between your colleague and their listener. That's exactly why people use it.

  • Easy to offer.

No forms and no admin for your team. Just a warm, human addition to the support you already have.

Why unlimited access makes the difference

When support comes in a fixed number of sessions, people start to ration it. They save it "for when things are really bad". They wonder whether their worry is big enough to count. Often, they don't call at all.

Unlimited access takes that calculation away.

  • Talk early.

People can reach out on an ordinary heavy day, not only when things feel unmanageable.

  • Come back as often as needed.

No counting down sessions, no worrying about using them up.

  • No need to justify it.

Nobody has to explain why they want to talk, to anyone.

  • A familiar voice.

Regular conversations build trust, and trust is what makes talking easier.

  • Simple for you.

One arrangement covers your whole team, so support is always there when someone needs it.

How Time to Talk Hub works with organisations

We offer confidential listening sessions for your staff and a regular, supportive presence for your teams. Every conversation follows the same gentle rhythm:

  1. Talk.

Start wherever you are. There's no script.

  2. Be heard.

We listen without judgement or interruption.

  3. Move forward.

Leave feeling lighter, with a clearer perspective.

Sessions take place by phone, anywhere in the UK, or in person at Barnstaple Chiropractic & Complementary Health Centre, Bickington Road, Sticklepath, Barnstaple.

I founded Time to Talk Hub with a degree in Psychology and three decades of lived experience as a wife, working mum, sister, daughter and carer. Therefore, I listen from shared experience as well as understanding, and people I speak with often describe our time together as calm, unhurried, and leaving feeling lighter.

When the Days Get Shorter: SAD and Why Talking About It Matters

As the days begin to feel shorter and darker, many of us notice a shift — not just in the weather, but in how we feel. For some, that shift is mild: a bit more sluggish, a bit less motivated to leave the house. For others, it's something heavier and harder to shake. This is Seasonal Affective Disorder, or SAD, and it affects far more people than you might think...
